Painting Drama - costume study WIP

Haven't been posting much lately because I've been working on Chris Oatley's Painting Drama coursework full-on :) I'm learning so much from his great teaching style and having a ton of fun developing my project. Thought I'd a least post a work in progress sketch though to give you a glimpse into what I've been working on. I'm going to be shooting some ref this week to take this further and fix/finish some of the anatomy and clothing so I'll replace this with the finished piece soon :)

This is a simple costume concept sketch I decided to flesh out a bit. I'm doing a variety of costume designs to try and establish a look/tone for the fashion of the world so some of them will be for main characters and some will be for crowd characters. I adore the patterns and colors that can be found in nature and clothing cuts, fabrics and accessories fascinate me so this kind of stuff is my favorite to design. I'm taking Chris' class so I can not only become better at composition/storytelling but so that I can create better ways to present these kinds of characters & costumes in a more entertaining and dramatic way.

*The wildlife are native to indonesia so I started sketching them for inspiration and use in the visual development. I also used Balinese dancers as inspiration if you can't tell by the chest piece ^^
